Nothing Like Primary

Two of the primary presidency came to me after sharing time to relay the primary excitement for the day.  The subject had been honesty---not lying.  The sister conducting the sharing time asked, "Do you ever get away with lying?"  Hyrum raised his hand, "Some moms have super powers and they can tell when you are lying, so you can't look them in the eye."  The voice of experience I would say.

Picked our first pumpkins this week.  Aunt Brenda was the first to support the kids' missionary fund this year.

Made applesauce with Taneil and Grandma and Grandpa Specht on Wednesday.  So grateful for their help.  As it was I didn't get done cleaning everything up until almost 10pm.  Now we have 14 quarts of applesauce.  Not sure it's efficient or economical, but it's nice to be making efforts in self-reliance.

I decided to put the "feast" into "Feast on Friday" with the boys.  We've tried to improve our family scripture study by having the kids come prepared to share something from their own study on Friday mornings.  It's been great sometimes, but like James said, often it is more like "Famine of Friday."  I had read 2 Nephi 5 this week when Nephi talks about all the things his people did when they "lived after the manner of happiness."  I challenged Talmage and Bryant to read it ahead of time and if they came prepared to feast, I'd make them a breakfast feast.  I sacrificed my own normal personal study time and had blueberry pancakes for them at 5:30 on Friday morning.  We had marking pencils and took turns sharing what we had learned.  It was fantastic.  So rewarding in fact that I think we probably started a new tradition.

Moses Lake

Summer isn't quite complete without a day at the Moses Lake Water Park.

I was a little surprised, but more pleased than anything, when Talmage and Bryant decided last minute to spend the day with the Specht cousins when they found out they were staying home. So, we took Jhett to be with Hayden and Hyrum and everyone was happy.

Making House a Home

For our first Family Home Evening at the new house, we took warm homemade bread and homemade jam to the neighbors.  Received well by all.

Thanks Rex for making us feel right at home.

School Starts

A new school year and a new routine.

Countdown to the first day of school.

Father's Blessings for Family Home Evening.  (This was Bryant's journal entry.  Of all the kids he by far experience the most anxiety over starting a new school.)

Sariah and Hyrum on their way to catch the bus on the first day of school.

The big boys get up at 5:30, we read scriptures at 6 (or shortly thereafter) and then they are off with James at 6:30.  We wish he could just take them to school, but they would get there too early.  He drops them off at the end of the road to catch their bus.

I run at 6:30 and when I get back I wake up Sariah and Hyrum.  I do everything I can to get some food in Hyrum (he is not an early morning breakfast eater) so that by 8:10 they are off to catch their bus by 8:20.

We come home, get breakfast cleaned up, have preschool with Rex and Lyle, and then they watch Super Why while I take a shower.  They play together until it's time to go get Hyrum off the kindergarten bus at 12:15.

Wish I would have had my phone to capture Lyle on the way to pick up Hyrum.  He had his Batman mask on, blue bandana ties around his neck cowboy style, and Zorro sword in hand.  The best part was watching his little Batman shadow trying to stomp on the shadow of my head as we walked.  Happy boy.

Labor Day Family Home Evening
(Trying to help Bryant get his mind off going back to school the next morning.)
