Friday we went out to help Grandpa and Grandma. They are putting in some main line all along
the grapes to pressurize their yard water, also some solid set in the “pumpkin
patch” and then solid set down below the cement pad for a bunch more
grass. Before lunch we picked up rock
and debris and after lunch we helped get the pipe in the trenches. That’s what Rex was talking about when he was
talking about leap frogging. Grandpa had
glued pipe so that there was one long pipe the length of the grape vines (they
took out the raspberries) and we had to leap frog each other as we laid it in
the trench so that the dirt didn’t get knocked in before the pipe got
laid. It worked great. It was a bit windy and a bit cold and
reminded me of so many Spring Breaks in my youth. It seems like we were always doing a pipe
project on Spring Break. Grandpa told
the kids a cool story about when Kase was doing an internship for Gore before
he graduated from college and for some project there was a lot of pvc and gluing
to do. An older, seasoned employee that
was working there didn’t know what to do but Kase was really good at it and it
really impressed the boss. The hands-on
farm lessons can go a long way. Anyway,
it was good to get out. That’s the first
time we’ve been around people since March 17th.
Grateful for a tractor with a bucket.

(They knew Grandpa and Grandma were going to pay them.)
Solid set for the "pumpkin patch."

Social distancing with Grandpa. Felt so good to be with people and be working outside.
